Keeping the sales up in the middle of the pandemic means prompting more creative ways to entice consumer spending. Sales promotions are very suitable to attract consumer participation as 60% of Filipinos made purchases during sale events. In their 2020 study, Nielsen found Filipino consumers demonstrated a focus on “homebound lifestyle” products, where food, dairy products, and processed frozen food hold a strong grasp in the market.

In running sale promotions, a sales promo permit must be first applied with the rightful government agency. Primarily, sale promotions for personal, family, household, or agricultural products and services are applied with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). But products that fall under food, drugs, devices, cosmetics, and hazardous substances must be applied with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Here are the things you should know prior to applying for a sales promotion permit with FDA:

  1. File at least thirty (30) days before the commencement of the sales promotion following the schedule specified in Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines of 1991.
  2. Schedule of filing for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics are as follows:
  • Monday – Food
  • Tuesday – Drugs
  • Thursday – Cosmetics
  1. Sales Promotion Permits must be applied with the appropriate concerned center of FDA:

4. Normal processing timeline is within ten (10) working days after submission. Some applications may take longer depending on the completeness and/or substance of the accompanying documents.
